THE EXTRATERRESTRE OF THE US RAP
Jeffrey Williams may well wear the pseudonym probably the least imaginative in the history of hip-hop (Young Thug = Young Voyou), his rap style is, conversely, totally on and original. Rapper from Atlanta, he started to distinguish himself in the early 2010s, with the mixtape series I Came from Nothing. However, it was when he joined Gucci Mane’s Brick Squad 1017 that the rapper took on another dimension. The mixtape he released in 2013, with the support of DJ Scream and DJ Swamp Izzo, 1017 Thug, is undoubtedly his most successful to date, in the extravagant rapper genre burned by drug use. It earns him a big critical rating, even beyond the usual spheres of Atlanta rap rap. The following year, Young Thug confirmed that he was one of the most important and brightest rappers of his time, with his successful collaborations with Gucci Mane, with Bloody Jay (the Black Portland duo), then in trio with Birdman and Rich Homie Quan, under the name of the Rich Gang.
