THE NEW REGGAE STOLE
Wait, but what is this catchy sound making its way across the globe? Easy, it’s Koffee. At just 19, the young woman – born Mikayla Simpson in Spanish Town, Jamaica – has become a familiar face at festivals and charts. She also made history in the spring by becoming the youngest artist to win the top of the Billboard’s Reggae Chart with her first EP, Rapture. In the single that propelled him there – “Toast”, a production by Major Lazer – Koffee celebrates his short but incredible musical trajectory in the four corners of his hometown, for a clip which today brings together more than 80 million views . Followed by collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber and Chronixx, and two unstoppable summer hits: “Throne” and “Rapture”, featuring with Govana. And this is only the beginning, a friendship with Rihanna would be born and, anyway, Koffee is on a mission. It’s simple: spread your optimism to the youth of today and tomorrow.
